While Android is still king, iOS is a very important platform and at some point you may want to try Apple‘s mobile OS. We won’t judge! Hey, maybe you just want to have a secondary iPad or something like that. Regardless, you will probably want to take all your contacts with you, but you must remember these are two completely different platforms.
This is definitely not like switching between two Android devices, which can easily sync through Google‘s servers. It’s also important to note that transferring contacts isn’t out of this world. There’s multiple ways to share information between Android handsets and the iconic iPhone. In this post we will show you some of our very favorite solutions.
Using the Move to iOS app
Did you know Apple had an Android app in the Google Play Store? It’s the only one, and it was released only recently. We were all quite excited to hear this – maybe Apple would start giving Android users access to some of its services! Then we realized what this app was all about.
Move to iOS is meant to help Android users… well, move to iOS. Despite all the hate it has been getting, the application certainly does what it’s advertised to do. And it does it very well. It can migrate contacts, messages, photos, videos, bookmarks, email accounts and calendars straight to any iOS device.
When you are ready to transfer all your data, the iPhone or iPad will simply create a private WiFi network and find your Android gadget. Enter the security code and the process will start. Simple as pie!
Using Google sync
While Apple is not very fond of supporting Android users, Google is the complete opposite. Most of the Search Giant’s services and features work very well on iPhones, and grabbing contacts from their servers is not the exception.
Do keep in mind this only works if you already sync your contacts to your Google account. Some devices don’t do that by default. If you have been associating all your contacts with Google’s servers, transferring contacts will be a breeze.
Just unlock your iPhone and head over to Settings, and access the “Mail, Contacts, Calendar” section. From there, enter your Gmail account and make sure the Contacts checker is turned on. Done!
Transfer manually using a VCF file
Don’t like dealing with all that darn cloud stuff? We can understand. There’s also ways to manually transfer your contacts from Android devices to iOS ones. You can make a VCF file, transfer it over to the iPhone and then simply open it to grab all your contacts data. The process is simpler than it seems; let’s walk you through it.
- 1. Unlock your Android device and head to the Contacts app.
- 2. Hit the menu (three dots) button and select “Import/export”.
- 3. Tap on “Export to storage”.
- 4. This will create a VCF file and save it on your phone.
- 5. Get this file on your iPhone. I like sending it to myself via an email synced to the iOS device (simple, fast and no cables required).
- 6. Open the file and the iOS device will prompt you to “Add all contacts”.
- 7. Follow the steps and be on your way. Your contacts have been transferred!
Using a 3rd party app
